Beginning  Class: 9am – 12pm

Learn when and why fly fishing is the right tool for the task.  Gain an understanding of what weight fly rod and fly line to use for various types of fishing.  Learn a little bit about leaders and tippet as well as line types, safety & etiquette, and various types of flies.   Learn basic casting techniques and the 5 casting principles that will help you become more proficient in handling different casting situations.  Fly casting is not difficult, but it does use different motions than other types of fishing.  Learn the basics of fly tying and tie several flies.  Learn a little about basic knots and bugs.

Class is limited to 5 participants.   Minimum age is 11 years old.  This is a one-session class lasting approximately three hours. Equipment will be supplied.

Please complete the registration process completely to register. Cost is $15.00 per participant and will be paid the day of the event directly to the instructor.

Intermediate/Advanced Class: 12:30pm – 2:00pm

Improve your fly casting accuracy with a variety of specially-made targets designed to make you a better fly fisher.  Each target has a different configuration to help simulate real fishing scenarios.  This is a great way to practice both accuracy and distance under the guidance of an instructor.   Review the 5 casting principles that will help you become more proficient in handling different casting situations.

Classes will consist of a maximum of two participants in order for you to get the most practice and instruction possible.  Minimum age is 11 years old.

This is a one-session class lasting for approximately one and a half hours.

Bring your own rod or one will be available. Prerequisites for taking class:  Must be able to comfortably cast a distance of at least 35 feet and have actively fly fished for at least a year.

Additional classes can be added if needed

All submissions are reviewed by the Director of Community Outreach before posting to the City’s Community Calendar. The City has the discretion to determine which public events will be included in the calendar.
