Leaves, brush, limbs and trees

Sidewalk program
Wood chips and mulch

Cleanup of leaves, brush, limbs and trees
Nappanee residents may place brush at the curbside for pickup. Collections occur on Mondays, weather permitting, from March to October and by appointment in November. Piles must be manageable for one person. Also, Christmas trees will be collected when left at the curb from Dec. 26 to Jan. 31.

Leaf collection in the fall takes place weekly. Residents living along S.R. 19 and U.S. 6 are asked to bag their leaves for easier collection and to prevent road hazards.

Following a storm, if you see a tree or limb in the road, please notify the department by calling City Hall during business hours at (574) 773-2112 or our emergency services dispatch center after hours at (574) 773-8400.

The city of Nappanee has a contract with a private company for trash collection; you can view the agreement and guidelines by clicking here. The street department does not provide trash removal service. If your pickup was missed or you have a question, please contact the clerk-treasurer's office at (574) 773-2112.

Snow removal
In winter, the street department is committed to clearing city streets efficiently. To accomplish this, the city is divided into quadrants for truck drivers to clear. We appreciate the understanding city residents have after significant snowfalls and we will attempt to clear our streets as safely and quickly as possible.

Street repair
Nappanee has about 45 miles of streets requiring maintenance and resurfacing from time to time. Our drivers are out working in our community daily and note issues for consideration and repair. If you encounter a pothole or other problem, please feel free to call us at (574) 773-2112 or send an email.

Sewer repair
Our department assists the wastewater utility in clearing obstructions in city sewer lines. For more information on sewer repair — and what not to put down the drain — click here.

Sidewalk assistance program
Depending on our annual city budget, Nappanee attempts to help homeowners and businesses repair broken sidewalks. The program is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and the property owner is required to pay only half of the repair cost. Download the form and return it to city hall. We will measure the walk, obtain an estimate and schedule the work.

Wood chips and mulch
For city residents, we provide wood products we have processed after brush cleanup. Mulch and chips are available on a first-come, first-served basis at our street department building on Wabash Street — due to demand, we cannot deliver these products.
